Water-Cooled 2824HR and 2824HS CMOS X-ray Detectors for Low Noise Dynamic Imaging
Spectrum Logic has now released water-cooled versions of the 2824HR and 2824HS detectors to further improve their market leading performance. In the cooled detectors water circulates between a chiller unit and a heat exchanger in the detector housing. This cools the detector and maintains a stable temperature which is configured at the chiller. The stable temperature reduces dark noise and stability of the temperature of the sensor array means that the offset correction is stable and does not suffer from variations in the dark image due to temperature changes in the CMOS sensors in the detector.

Spectrum Logic, an innovator in X-ray imaging solutions, today launched the 2824HR CMOS X-ray detector for advanced industrial and scientific X-ray imaging applications. The 2824HR is a CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) technology-based X-ray flat panel detector (FPD) that provides high resolution images and covers a wide energy range. It has an active area of 28 cm X 24 cm.
With pixel pitch of 50µm, 26M pixels offer ultra-high-resolution images in applications such as pre-clinical radiography, pathology, X-ray diffraction and industrial CT. The detector belongs to our 50um HR family which offers 1412HR, 1206HR and 0606HR solutions. The 2824HR detector has been designed and developed particularly for high energy X-ray applications with lead shielding to protect electronics and CMOS sensor from radiation damage and hence offering longer lifetime in the field.
The 2824HR is an array of 4 CMOS sensors precisely stitched together with maximum 100um gap between active pixels. A fibre optic plate is bonded on top of the sensors to protect the image sensors from X-ray radiation enhancing image quality and product lifetime. With a choice of high resolution CsI or Gadox scintillator, the 2824HR is an ideal candidate for static and dynamic imaging with superior image quality over a large range of scientific and industrial applications.
“We are very proud to expand our product range to high-resolution industrial applications with the new 2824HR. It is a milestone for high resolution x-ray imaging in industrial and scientific markets including synchrotron applications. Our 50µm HR family is already offering the fastest flat panel detectors with this resolution. The 2824HR enables our users to capture high resolution images with the greatest accuracy and speed. Our customised GigE interface offers up to 10Gbps to support 5608 x 4802 pixels and dynamic imaging for large parts inspections.” says Asmar Khan, Product and Business Development Manager at Spectrum Logic.
2824HR a wafer-scale CMOS image sensor with low noise active pixel sensor technology (APS) and state-of-the-art column parallel 14-bit ADCs. The sensor offers two gain modes to support different applications.
The 2824HR is offered with a choice of three interfaces including Camera Link, USB 3.1 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Our in-house software development team offers a Windows-based software development kit (SDK) for easy and smooth integration to into the customer’s software. The SDK offers image capture and corrections.
The 2824HR offers 2 types of active cooling. Active air-cooling system is available immediately and water cooling will be available in Q2 2021.
